A disaster recovery plan – also known as a business continuation plan – is designed to provide a set of policies and procedures for what to do in the event of a major business interruption event. This topic addresses what the health care organization needs to do respond the event in many time periods: immediate response, short term assessment of the impact of the event, communications with the staff, patients and vendors, relocating to a new facility, if necessary, establishing temporary operations (including secure access to patient health information) and repairs to the old facility and recovering to the original organization operations. This webinar takes the participant through the steps needed to develop, test and implement the plan.
The need for a business continuation plan – or disaster plan – starts with the requirements stated in the HIPAA regulations and continues to the ability of the health care organization to sustain itself in the event of a significant event. The disaster plan provides a road map for what to do if a major event occurs and results in a significant interruption in the ability of the health care organization to continue to provide its services. This includes not only being able to continue serving patients, but the ability of the health care to maintain its financial stability and protect the patients’ protected health care information. This webinar provides the basis for an organization to develop and test its disaster recovery planning.
